Aldi has emerged as the third-largest grocery retailer in Australia, behind Woolworths and Coles. According to a Roy Morgan Research survey of consumer shopping habits, Aldi has doubled its share of the Australian market since 2007 and now accounts for more than 10% of supermarket spending.
Aldi’s customer base has also risen fourfold in eight years, from 1 million customers a month to 4.2 million a month. Aldi has expanded its range by about 30% in the last few years and now offers 1,500 SKUs, compared with 700 when Aldi opened its first store in Sydney in 2001.
