Meatless Farm has been taking the world by storm with their great tasting meat alternative foods and have recently expanded into the Middle East.Tell us about Meatless Farm...
Meatless Farm is one of the UK’s fastest growing plant-based meat brands, founded by Danish Entrepreneur Morten Toft Bech. Morten’s wife was struggling to find a meat alternative to use in family favourite meals such as spaghetti bolognese and chilli con carne, so he set himself the task of creating a plant-based meat alternative that vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and even meat-eaters can enjoy with no compromise.
After a successful launch in the UK, Meatless Farm expanded into the US and is now available in 24 countries with major retail and foodservice partners. Meatless Farm produce accessible, sustainable and nutritionally rich plant-based food including plant-based mince, sausages and burger patties which use 90% less land and 70-80% less water produce versus their meat counterparts.
Where have you seen export growth in recent months?
The Middle East - We have recently launched in Carrefour in the UAE.
Which products are doing particularly well?
We have seen growth across our portfolio of plant based products of burgers, sausages and in particular mince because it is so versatile as a product and can be easily swapped into family favourite dishes.
Tell us about your Export Strategy....
Our International business strategy is very different to many companies as we now have offices in Holland, Singapore and the US to manage regionally the European, APAC and North America markets. Part of the strategy was due to Brexit but also this enables us to speak with buyers in local language. Our Export strategy is to manage the Middle East and South America where we don’t have offices out of the UK.
We recently launched in Kuwait and Israel after initial meetings with distributors at Sial and Gulf Food exhibitions.
What are the company’s export ambitions for the future?
We are in a really exciting high growth category and our ambitions are to bring great tasting plant-based food across the globe. Subsequently we are looking to build as rapidly as possible a sustainable business that helps consumers make the switch to plant-based food.
What do you value most about FDEA membership?
FDEA is a great forum to share with and learn from other UK Exporters as to the challenges and issues that we are facing but also understand the best practice in building international businesses.
How have exhibitions and events helped grow your export business if at all?
From launching in the UK in 2018 as a new start-up company, exhibitions have played a key part in both the UK and Export strategy. From meetings at trade shows like Sial, Anuga and Gulf Food Shows we have been able to appoint numerous distributors
